Welcome to the first post from the new billet. We moved in on Wednesday so this is the third day of living like a U-boat Captain. I'm adjusting to the new space reasonably quickly, but I have to admit, a little padding would be good. There's very little in here that's soft and sound-muffling, so I find myself creeping about to avoid the echoing clang of the intruder. Tyson is happy. We have a log fire and a big telly. He has the bed he's always had. Along with food, water and the natural spendour of the Triglav National Park right outside the door he has all he needs. There's even a balcony for him to sit on if he ever feels the need. So far he hasn't felt the need. Like me and swimming pool diving boards, he acknowledges its existence but doesn't feel compelled to try it out. I'm happy so far. This morning I was feeling a little dispirited but that soon evaporated. It might be because I'm sleeping in a bed made for a 10 year old. It might be because I'm very slightly worried about other people arriving at the apartment building and shattering the silence. It might be because I'm here for a year and the fascinating wonder of where I'll live has crystallized into these four walls. Whatever it was it was gone by the time I was half way round my dog walk. I got back and cleaned Das Boot, made some lunch and then, for your delight and edification, I took some video of the place. My camera phone isn't very good, and the brain makes more sense of grainy footage than grainy stills. And so...up periscope. [ps...Have you tried the Armchair Detective Challenge yet?]

Very nice. Compact but cosy and such a great locale. In style, that bathroom reminds me of British ones I have seen. Modern but on the small side. Very appealing billet and, having been in a real U-boat (U-505 in Chicago), I would say considerably more comfortable.

An ideal space. I don't envy the emotional part but moving away to a mountain and living in a quiet beautiful very small space on the edge of a national park sounds very good to me. In fact, I may try to figure out how to follow in your footsteps.

A very agreeable video tour-- nice idea to post that: easier to imagine you there. Juxtaposition of modern apt and old farmhouse noted. Only thing missing: hang glider!
